In “What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours”, her new collection from Riverhead Books, Helen Oyeyemi continues her way of tapping fairy tales & myth to make us question a reality too often too easily believed, including, perhaps, that this woman could possibly be 31 years old and have already produced the oeuvre she has. Reviewing the book for the Dallas Morning News, I was taken back to my thinking about fairy tales (and other tales) retold some years ago.
And here’s an interesting interview Kelly Link, another twister of tales, did with Oyeyemi for the Los Angeles Review of Books on May 26th, 2015: Horror stories are love stories, Link says. Could invert that one, too.
